Enhancing & improving user experience: Re-designing lawyer dashboard

My Legal Pro is an Australian legal tech SaaS solutions platform that provides integration services for the legal process of property transactions between various stakeholders such as lawyers, clients and agents, by increasing the ease of fast, transparent and real-time administration.

My Role :

As the UI/UX designer I helped defining the problem in old interface, creating solution, and crafting new, fresh & consistent user interface.

Project Brief

My Legal Pro Trading app has been launched for some time, but the app has found problems with the complexity of the user experience and inconsistencies in its design language. This project is about revamping the old interface, overhauling and building a consistent design style that can be implemented across other Tribe products.

Project Goals

  1. Implementing a consistent design style throughout this project

  2. Refining information architecture hierarchy to improve the whole user experience

  3. Improve design consistency

Before I executed this project, I first compiled a scenario in the form of a storyboard, from the results of the interview with the solicitor. The goal was to ensure my understanding of the user's needs and align the design style according to the user's needs.

Old Interface

Previously, this web app had an interface but the design was very old and has inconsistency with unorganized architectural information and redundant wording. In this project, we also fixed and improved the user experience.

Storyboard

1

Property sale and purchase

2

Hire a lawyer for legal matters

3

Lawyers prepare documents related to the sale and purchase of property.

4

The lawyer also determines the status of the case and how many days until settlement.

5

The lawyer takes care of all payment matters in accordance with applicable regulations and informs the client, also known as task

6

The client completes the payment for the task, the client sends invoice, but sometimes the client can forget and the lawyer has to follow up.

7

The client asks the lawyer for case updates. The lawyer provides the client with case updates and so on until settlement.

8

Settlement is complete, the matter is finished and the property has officially transferred ownership.

Scenario : Property trading process

The process are manual, and after several consultation and research which involving solicitor, lawyer, we found a behavior that can be summarized in a user journey like this

Design Concept

Instead of making this just a simple legal case management software, I want to take this opportunity to make My Legal Pro on top of Law firm’s mind & simplify the process.

Information Architecture

To make it easier and make the content organized, easy navigation then I design the information architecture first and get approval from PM.

Defining Design Style to Implement

Primary, secondary & semantic colors. The choice of navy blue and gold was a direct request from upper stakeholders.

Designing the Interface

Dashboard interface with sidebar expanded

In table, the data have date create & due date to settlement

In dashboard also has a comment column that is connected to various ongoing cases. This aims to make it easier for lawyers to access communication quickly, cutting the flow to access comments without having to go to the case detail page

Dashboard interface with sidebar expanded

Glance of overview section in dashboard as quick access information for lawyer. It contains amount of running case, to do list, payment items, case invitation

Comment interaction | View comment

The “view comment” button is needed to ensure that every stakeholder has read the comment and it is summarized in the history. Because what is prioritized is transparency and evidence.

Comment interaction | Comment is generated

Interaction when comment has been viewed

Test & Iteration

Usability tests with lawyer & solicitor in internal law firm

Problem : Comment column actually is not that needed

After test is conducted, we got a feedback that comment column in dashboard not that needed by solicitor & lawyer. They found it overwhelmed with too many content information

Iteration : In dashboard page, lawyer only need case list & overview glance

Lawyer only need overview & case list also recently view for quick access

Lesson learned

Story board can ease a process thinking & put deep empathy for user

Before the project kick off, we have brainstorm workshop to put any scenario in mind & collaboration with every related stakeholder in product. And from that, we generate story board how’s lawyer & solicitor activities from beginning, during, until finish & settlement.

The benefit of usability testing

Before we launch the product, we conduct usability testing first & found that one of our assumption is not that needed (comment column) & after iteration, we remove comment column from dashboard
