Semaai builds complete agritech solutions to help rural farmers and MSMEs maximize their income potential and revitalize rural farming communities in Indonesia
My Role
This project is so special for me because I was a first designer in the team back then and my first career job back then, and for this MVP project, I lead the design process and also including user research by UX researcher in the field, android engineer and backend engineer
Problem Statement
Agricultural ecosystems in Indonesia that are not integrated well so that the price of agricultural production facilities is not transparent and efficient
Supply chain problem in Indonesia MSMEs agribusiness
Agricultural MSMEs have an important role as a support system and aggregator for farmers. However, MSMEs are not sufficiently equipped with the tools to help them serve the needs of farmers, price transparency and access to markets
Understanding Business Model
Company want to provide and elevate digital business to business (B2B) for farm shops and farmers for inputs such as seeds, pesticides and fertilizers, access to markets for crop products, and agronomy services
How Might We
Can cut out the middleman, get the best price and ultimately increase MSMEs and farmers income through a more transparent and efficient agricultural supply chain

B2B business model are required user to fill their business identity through registration flow. It is to make sure they have a business so from the app can accept them

Semaai app only give allowance for user who lives in Central Java, so province field would be crucial

Important information for user in PDP is the information about product active ingredients, pests and diseases, how to use and category. It also help user to find alternative product with same benefit but with cheaper price

Learnings
These are very first design of Semaai app (MVP) and also my first career as UX designer. I learn so much and read much about the UX and UI principles and I implemented into this design project. And also the feature is simple and I keep create clean and minimal design. Hence Semaai user is mostly old, non tech savvy and living in rural area, so it’s important to create simple and clarity design fo those user.
Updates
Semaai, an Indonesia-based agritech startup, has raised US$1.3 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Beenext and Sequoia Capital India’s Surge. The round also saw participation from Ula co-founder Nipun Mehra, Qoala founder Harshet Lunani, and Houlihan Lokey director Prashant Pawar.
Impacts We Bring to the Table
On 11th January 2022, we went to the field (Pati) and conducted research, we met end user to make sure our app usability is working as we expected and to gain knowledge and feedback from user. User stories summary.
